25 Pick Up Lines From Movies

At the outset, lets make it clear to all men reading this article: pick up lines usually dont help land you a date. In most cases, you will only end up offending the woman you wish to woo. If you try a funny pick up line, you run the risk of the joke falling flat. A nerdy one may never make the mark, especially if the woman does not understand your jargon. A clever pick up line may not cut ice if the woman does not like Mr. Smarty Pants. Some men believe that flattery can help them win a date. While women love to be showered with attention, they can easily see through fake flattery. Often such pick up lines become juicy tidbits for women to share among their girlfriends over cocktails. What Makes Pick Up Lines Fun? Pick up lines could be great starting points for conversation. It can help break the ice, but it does not guarantee you a date. For instance, a woman was approached by a man with a pick up line, â€Å"Well, here I am, what are your other two wishes?† Now, this line did not work its magic on her. She quipped, â€Å"I wish that you’d buy your drink and then disappear.† The man realized that she was not interested and walked away with dignity. Who Should Not Use Pick Up Lines? If you lack the confidence to approach a woman, dont use pick up lines. They will repel  women. If you are shy and find it tough to meet new people you should refrain from pick up lines too. Pick up lines work if you exude confidence and an aura of sexiness. Are you a charming, debonair man with a magnetic personality? If yes, you can try using pick up lines. Of course, if you were to approach an equally confident and bold woman, she will quite likely snub your overtures. Pick up lines with sexual undertones usually put off women who view men as predators who are only looking for sex. So dont try to pick women with cheesy lines like, â€Å"If youre feeling down, I can feel you up.† Lines like that wont earn you a date, but will surely earn you a slap! Think of pick up lines as a part of a mating ritual. After all, it’s a delicate dance, where both the man and the woman need to be attracted to each other. What Women Really Think About Pick Up Lines Women who are looking for a lifetime partner are usually not impressed by pick up lines. Some women find pick up lines amusing if not flattering, but most women prefer to start a conversation with a simple, Hi, I am Tom! or something similar. What Is the Intersection of Two Sets

When dealing with set theory, there are a number of operations to make new sets out of old ones. One of the most common set operations is called the intersection. Simply stated, the intersection of two sets A and B is the set of all elements that both A and B have in common. We will look at details concerning the intersection in set theory.   As we will see, the key word here is the word and. An Example For an example of how the intersection of two sets forms a new set, let’s consider the sets A {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} and B {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}. To find the intersection of these two sets, we need to find out what elements they have in common. The numbers 3, 4, 5 are elements of both sets, therefore the intersections of A and B is {3. 4. 5]. Notation for Intersection In addition to understanding the concepts concerning set theory operations, it is important to be able to read symbols used to denote these operations. The symbol for intersection is sometimes replaced by the word â€Å"and† between two sets. This word suggests the more compact notation for an intersection that is typically used. The symbol used for the intersection of the two sets A and B is given by A ∠© B. One way to remember that this symbol ∠© refers to intersection is to notice its resemblance to a capital A, which is short for the word and. To see this notation in action, refer back the above example. Here we had the sets A {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} and B {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}. So we would write the set equation A ∠© B {3, 4, 5}. Intersection With the Empty Set One basic identity that involves the intersection shows us what happens when we take the intersection of any set with the empty set, denoted by #8709. The empty set is the set with no elements. If there are no elements in at least one of the sets we are trying to find the intersection of, then the two sets have no elements in common. In other words, the intersection of any set with the empty set will give us the empty set. This identity becomes even more compact with the use of our notation. We have the identity: A ∠© ∅ ∅. Intersection With the Universal Set For the other extreme, what happens when we examine the intersection of a set with the universal set? Similar to how the word universe is used in astronomy to mean everything, the universal set contains every element. It follows that every element of our set is also an element of the universal set. Thus the intersection of any set with the universal set is the set that we started with. Again our notation comes to the rescue to express this identity more succinctly. For any set A and the universal set U, A ∠© U A. Other Identities Involving the Intersection There are many more set equations that involve the use of the intersection operation. Of course, its always good to practice using the language of set theory. For all sets A, and B and D we have: Reflexive Property: A ∠© A ACommutative Property: A ∠© B B ∠© AAssociative Property: (A ∠© B) ∠© D A ∠© (B ∠© D)Distributive Property: (A ∠ª B) ∠© D (A ∠© D)∠ª (B ∠© D)DeMorgan’s Law I: (A ∠© B)C AC ∠ª BCDeMorgan’s Law II: (A ∠ª B)C AC ∠© BC

Pollan not only talks about fast food, but, dissects what is actually inside of fast food. However, before we can jump in on another diet trend or on anyone who is talking about what people should be eating, we need to examine the author as well because, there have been plenty before him trying to tell people what to eat and how much. Is he creditable? Are his sources creditable? Is this another person on a soapbox telling us how unhealthy fast food is for us?†¦show more content†¦This is part of Pollan educating his audience about what is in their food when they drive through the drive through. Speaking of his audience, his main demographic is the people that are truly wonder ing what they are in truth eating when they eat out at fast food joints and to the people that are trying to make a health concision decision of what they should be eating. Meanwhile, he goes on saying that the effect of long term eating â€Å"cheap calories† that would eventually lead up to â€Å"obesity, Type II diabetes, heart disease† (Pollan 117). Although he doesn’t directly tell people not to eat fast food he just leaves that to the reader to choose for themselves what to do, it’s just to inform people what to be expecting when they order and the effects of eating fast food too much. The author established his ethos when he stayed where and how he obtained his information. This shows that he is a capable author of finding and stating where his research comes from. Thus allows him to establish a connection to his audience, by showing that what he is saying is true and that he is a trustworthy author. In the meantime Pollan brought in different persp ectives such as, telling his own experiences and having a scientist do research on the fast food. Essay on Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the Prison...

The failure of imprisonment has been one of the most noticeable features of the current crisis in criminal justice systems. At best, prisons are able to provide a form of crude retribution to those unfortunate to be apprehended. At worst, prisons are brutalizing, cannot be shown to rehabilitate or deter offenders, and are detrimental to the re-entry of offenders into society. If anything, they do little else than confine most prisoners, and as a result lead to the imposition of certain undesirable learning habits and labels. Such habits include the learning of survival patterns of behavior, which do little to help the prisoner to be reintegrated as a useful and productive member of the community.†¦show more content†¦It can be argued that imprisonment has been widely found to have failed to achieve its stated goals. Rehabilitation as perceived within the prison context is a myth. The predominant objective of control has developed in such a manner as to exclude the successful operation of any rehabilitation process. In looking at the nature and operation of the New South Wales prison system, for example, one is confronted by a system preoccupied with notions of control and security. A very disturbing feature of the system is that the availability of such prison accommodation helps to define the nature of the offender rather than the offender being defined by the nature of his offence (Wilkinson, 1972). Rehabilitation programmes of prison work and education, for example, are basically directed at instilling a sense of conformity within the inmate. It has often been established that prison work or training experiences all too often fail to impart skills that can be usefully applied once the prisoner is released. Work programmes in this regard are extremely inadequate and will remain so, due largely to the structure of the prison process.
